Veganuary X Call It Spring

Veganuary is a time of the year when we are offered a reminder to challenge ourselves and learn new things about the vegan movement and its impact on animals, the fashion industry, and our everyday lives.

You could say it’s one of our favourite times of the year – Call It Spring has been vegan since 2019! And we continue to take this opportunity to shine a light on such an important cause.

This year, to launch Veganuary at our head office, we took the opportunity to share some of our favourite vegan recipes, documentaries, and other tidbits we’ll be practicing this month.

Call It Spring is 100% Vegan

At Call It Spring, we make it our mission to bring you shoes and bags that are not only fun and stylish but kinder to our furry friends.

Since 2019, we’ve been 100% vegan and Peta-approved certified. This certification ensures that our products are free from animal skins, feathers, furs, hairs, wool fibres, shells and any other animal-derived compounds.

But, to get into the nitty-gritty, being Peta-approved certified hold us accountable to:

  1. Put out a mandatory statement of assurance signed by all our existing and new suppliers, stating that there are no animal fibres or traces in any products used in our collections.

  2. Our Peta certification is renewed annually, ensuring that all new suppliers comply with our commitment.

As a brand, we also undertake additional steps to ensure our vegan compliance:

  1. An external, third-party lab tests samples to ensure an objective assessment. Although Peta does not require this, these tests are done by our teams in order to uphold our commitment to our customers and to the animals we aim to protect.

  2. All testing is done on finished products, both footwear and handbags. The styles we test are first chosen by the Corporate Social Responsibility team, who select based on a few factors, like ensuring each supplier is included in the test.

While acknowledging our imperfections, we are committed to continual progress. We actively seek out materials and technologies that enhance the well-being and safety of animals.

We know synthetic materials are not a perfect solution. Still, as we look for better alternatives, we commit to products free of PVC – a notably harmful material linked to environmental and health concerns.

I’m obsessed with the Clueless chunky loafer. It’s that perfect juxtaposition between smart and edgy!

What is a documentary or book about veganism you recommend?
One I plan on watching this month is Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret, as it divulges the sustainable factors of meat and dairy farming, one of the world's largest pollutants.

What does Veganuary mean to you?
As it falls perfectly with the start of a new year, It’s the perfect time to challenge myself to learn more about the vegan movement – especially in the fashion world, where I find the information is still developing. It’s also a great time to change some habits, and I cook at least one vegan meal per week in January to learn new recipes and flavours.
